Rain that soaked the East Valley over the weekend left water running in Queen Creek's washes on Monday, closing a popular trail, one road crossing and the town's ballfields.

The Queen Creek Wash trail is closed until further notice because of high, fast-moving water, the Queen Creek Independent reported Monday. Via Del Jardin is also closed where it crosses the Sonoqui Wash, and ballfields at parks around town were shut because of standing water.

Constance Halonen Wilson, the town's communications and marketing manager, told the Independent that a few traffic signals had intermittent problems that appeared to be related to SRP, and that Queen Creek police were helping direct traffic.

Search at Hawes Road

Later Monday, Queen Creek fire crews and police went to the wash trail at Hawes Road after a caller reported seeing two men walk into the flowing water and not come out. In a statement reported by the Independent, the town said the pair had not seemed to be in trouble at the time.

Searchers then found video of two men who matched the description leaving the wash shortly after the call. The town later said contact had been made with both men and that they confirmed they were the people seen in the water. No rescue was needed and no one was hurt.

The wash had already been closed when the men went in.

Around the area

In San Tan Valley, the Pinal County Sheriff's Office reported no major incidents tied to the rain, according to the Independent.
