Bratt sets the tone
Nine strikeouts from Mitch Bratt carried Arizona in a 10-4 win over San Diego on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Chase Field.
Bratt held the Padres to one hit and no earned runs over 7.0 innings. He walked three and earned the win, moving to 1-1. Taylor Clarke followed with 1.0 inning, allowing no hits or earned runs with no walks and one strikeout.
The Diamondbacks gave Bratt a lead in the bottom of the third. Moreno hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Carroll, and Tawa followed with a home run to left center, a 414-foot shot that made it 2-0.
Arizona breaks it open
Arizona added six runs in the bottom of the fourth. Nootbaar singled to right to score Locklear, and Carroll singled to right to bring in Waldschmidt. Moreno then walked with the bases loaded, scoring Nootbaar.
Tawa added a sacrifice fly to right that scored Carroll, and Vargas doubled to center to drive in Moreno and Perdomo. That inning pushed the Diamondbacks’ lead to 8-0.
Casey Mize took the loss for San Diego, falling to 4-7. He allowed nine hits and eight earned runs in 3.1 innings, with three walks and one strikeout. Kyle Hart pitched 2.2 innings for the Padres, allowing two hits and no earned runs with one walk and three strikeouts. Wandy Peralta added 1.0 inning with one hit, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout.
