Yainer Diaz provided the early spark with a solo home run to left center in the third inning, measuring 383 feet. The hit gave Arizona an initial 1-0 lead before Houston’s bats swung back.
Diaz’s homer was part of a three-run frame for the Astros. After Diaz’s blast, Jeremy Peña doubled to left field, scoring Alvarez who had reached base earlier. Jose Altuve then hit a sacrifice fly to left, bringing Alvarez home from third base. The three runs in the inning turned the game around, giving Houston a 3-1 advantage that would hold until the final out.
Pitching Performances
Cristian Javier earned the win for Houston, pitching five innings and allowing just one run on one hit while striking out eight batters. He walked three but kept the Diamondbacks’ offense quiet enough to maintain the lead. Enyel De Los Santos pitched 0.1 innings, giving up one hit and one walk without allowing a run.
Bennett Sousa followed with 1.1 innings of work, surrendering one hit and two walks while recording two strikeouts.
Bryan Abreu closed out the regular portion of the game with 1.1 innings, allowing one walk but no hits or runs. Josh Hader secured the save with a perfect inning, striking out three batters without issuing a walk or allowing a hit. The Astros’ bullpen combined for 3.2 scoreless innings to protect the lead.
