Rodriguez anchors the pitching effort
Zero home runs were hit, and Bradgley Rodriguez’s two-inning line helped San Diego turn its early lead into a 5-1 win over Arizona on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Chase Field.
Rodriguez earned the win, improving to 3-2, after pitching 2.0 innings with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout. Walker Buehler worked 4.0 innings for San Diego, allowing six hits and one earned run with one walk and three strikeouts.
Kohl Drake took the loss for Arizona, falling to 0-1 after allowing six hits and three earned runs in 3.2 innings. Drake walked one and struck out one.
Padres build the early lead
San Diego went ahead in the top of the first when Machado grounded into a double play, shortstop to second to first, and Tatis Jr. scored while Rengifo was out at second.
The Padres added two runs in the top of the third. Machado grounded out to shortstop, bringing in Cronenworth and moving Rengifo to second and Tatis Jr. to third. France followed with a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Tatis Jr. and sending Rengifo to third for a 3-0 lead.
Arizona answered in the bottom of the third. Moreno singled to right, and Carroll scored to make it 3-1.
