Power Surge Defines Sunday's Victory

Two home runs each from Abrams and Wood provided the offensive firepower needed for the Washington Nationals to secure a 10-7 win against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. The victory improved the Nationals' record to 54-52, while the Diamondbacks fell to 55-51.

Early Exchange and Home Run Duel

The game featured an immediate offensive exchange. In the first inning, Arizona’s Moreno doubled to left field, driving in Perdomo to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Washington responded in the second inning when Young singled to center, allowing House to score and tie the game at 1-1.

The third inning saw both teams trade solo home runs. Perdomo launched a 356-foot shot to right field for Arizona. Shortly after, Abrams answered with a 390-foot homer to center field for Washington. The home run call was initially overturned by umpire review before being upheld, giving the Nationals a 2-2 tie.

Arizona regained the lead in the fourth inning when Marte hit a 411-foot home run to center field, making the score 3-2. The momentum shifted dramatically in the fifth inning. Moreno hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Carroll to tie the game at 3-3.

However, the Nationals quickly took control. Wood homered to center field, a 430-foot blast that also drove in Nuñez, putting Washington ahead 4-4. Abrams followed with another home run to center field, this one measuring 399 feet and scoring Lile, extending the lead to 6-4.

Defense Holds and Late Rally

Washington maintained its advantage through the middle innings. In the seventh, House doubled to center, scoring Crews to make it 7-4. Young added another double to left, bringing House home for an 8-4 lead. García Jr. reached on an infield single, and Young scored on a throwing error by pitcher Garcia, pushing the margin to 9-4.

Arizona attempted a late comeback. In the eighth, Locklear hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Waldschmidt to make it 9-5. Wood then hit a 418-foot home run to left center, narrowing the gap to 9-6. In the ninth inning, Waldschmidt singled to left, scoring Carroll to make it 9-7. Arenado grounded out, allowing Moreno to score, bringing the final margin to 10-7.

Pitching Performances

The winning pitcher was Riley Cornelio, who earned his second win of the season with a 2-1 record. He pitched two innings, allowing one run on one hit. Miles Mikolas started for Washington, pitching four innings and allowing three earned runs.

Max Kranick recorded his first save of the season, pitching one scoreless inning. Clayton Beeter closed the game with his tenth save, pitching one inning with one strikeout.

For Arizona, Jonathan Loaisiga took the loss, dropping his record to 2-3. He pitched one inning, allowing two earned runs. Brandyn Garcia pitched one inning, allowing two earned runs on four hits. The attendance at Nationals Park was 21,341.
