The University of Northern Colorado Athletics Department and Banner Health have expanded and extended their strategic partnership. The agreement secures Banner Health’s role as the exclusive healthcare partner for UNC Athletics. This move builds upon an existing relationship designed to support student-athletes beyond game day.
Darren Dunn, director of athletics, noted that every time a student-athlete wears a UNC uniform, they represent the university and the community. He described Banner Health as an incredible partner in caring for athletes over many years. Dunn expressed excitement about recognizing that commitment in a visible manner through the new arrangement.
Alan Qualls, chief executive officer of Banner’s Northern Colorado hospitals, stated pride in deepening the partnership. He said having their name on the uniforms serves as a visible symbol of their commitment to UNC Athletics and its outstanding student-athletes.
For the first time in UNC Athletics history, student-athletes will wear a new symbol of this partnership. Beginning this season, UNC Athletics will feature a Banner Health jersey patch on the uniforms of its NCAA-sponsored programs. The patch will appear on football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball uniforms during the 2026-27 season.
The expansion will include volleyball, soccer, baseball, and softball uniforms in future years. This change aligns with NCAA and conference regulations regarding uniform design and sponsor visibility.
While fans will notice the new look immediately, the patch represents more than a logo. It signifies Banner Health’s continued commitment to providing world-class sports medicine, athletic training, and healthcare resources. The partnership strengthens one of the university’s most valued relationships.
Beyond the jersey patch, the long-term agreement includes access to Banner’s sports medicine personnel, athletic training services, team physicians, medical leadership, and event medical coverage. These resources directly benefit UNC student-athletes through various health and wellness initiatives.
