Queen Creek’s girls volleyball team claimed its first 6A Fiesta region victory Thursday, sweeping Sunnyside 3-0 at Queen Creek High School.

The Oct. 1 result moved the Bulldogs to 1-3 in region play and 8-10 overall on the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s updated team page. Queen Creek had lost its first three region matches, each by a 3-1 score, against Higley, Williams Field and Gilbert.

The win came immediately before the Nike Tournament of Champions, listed on the Bulldogs’ schedule for Oct. 2–3 at Arizona Athletic Grounds. Their next scheduled region match is Oct. 13 against Highland at Greenfield Junior High.

Benjamin Franklin also finished Thursday without dropping a set. The Chargers beat Chinle 3-0 on the road, taking the sets 25-19, 25-14 and 25-16, according to the AIA’s official scoreboard.

The result lifted Benjamin Franklin to 12-9 overall. The Chargers’ schedule classifies the Chinle match as a non-region “Freedom” contest; their region record remains 1-1. Their next listed match is an Oct. 13 region visit to Coolidge, followed by a home match against ALA–Ironwood on Oct. 15.

Both Thursday results were marked final on the AIA scoreboard Friday morning. The scoreboard did not list individual set scores for Queen Creek’s win over Sunnyside.
