Chandler law enforcement officials successfully prevented a potential collision last month by deploying modern surveillance tools and a marked patrol unit to intercept a driver traveling in the wrong direction. The incident occurred on McQueen Road near Ray Road, a location approximately 13 miles west of Queen Creek. Authorities identified the individual as 25-year-old Jhon Aramis Sanchez Torres.
The event unfolded just before 7 p.m. on June 25 when Torres was observed driving north in lanes designated for southbound traffic. Staff at Chandler’s Real Time Operations Center began monitoring the situation via city cameras, providing officers with the suspect’s precise location in real time. Visual footage captured on the median showed a man attempting to signal the driver to stop, but the vehicle continued moving forward.
Officers positioned on both the north and south sides of McQueen Road attempted to halt the vehicle. Video evidence indicated that Torres maneuvered around the responding units rather than complying with their signals. Because the driver did not cease movement, police utilized a patrol car to pin the vehicle in place, effectively stopping it from further travel.
Body camera recordings captured the moment Torres exited the vehicle. An officer is heard shouting commands for the suspect to turn away during the apprehension. Torres was taken into custody and booked on multiple charges, including aggravated driving under the influence and failure to yield.
