Incoming sixth-grade students from six Chandler Unified School District elementary schools have completed a three-week initiative designed to introduce them to higher education. The program, known as Destination College, took place at Chandler-Gilbert Community College and concluded with a graduation ceremony attended by families.
The initiative is a collaborative effort involving Chandler-Gilbert Community College, the Chandler Unified School District, and the Chandler Education Foundation. Its primary objective is to help young learners view college as a viable future path by allowing them to experience a campus environment firsthand.
During the three-week session, participants engaged in coursework covering coding, robotics, and science. Organizers stated that the event aims to place higher education on the radar of younger students early in their academic careers and provide them with optimism regarding their future prospects.
Chandler is located approximately 13 miles west of Queen Creek.
