Mesa Police have issued a photograph of a pickup truck they suspect was involved in a fatal hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a 33-year-old skateboarder. The incident occurred in May at the Mesa Grand Shopping Center, located near the intersection of U.S. 60 and Stapley Drive. Mesa is about 16 miles northwest of Queen Creek.
Investigators stated that the vehicle in question is believed to be a gray or silver Ford F-150. The crash took place around 11 p.m. on May 23 while the victim, identified as Robert Hetrick, was skateboarding in the shopping center parking lot. Police noted that it remains unclear whether the truck sustained damage during the collision.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the vehicle or the circumstances of the crash to contact the Mesa Police Department at 480-644-2211. In a statement, police emphasized that even minor details could assist in providing answers and accountability for Hetrick’s family.
Hetrick’s relatives have established a GoFundMe campaign to cover expenses for a memorial service, noting that the costs exceed their financial means. In their fundraising appeal, the family described Hetrick as a loving and caring individual who brought joy to those around him and always found ways to make them laugh. They added that he was the type of person who went out of his way to help others, and his kindness touched many lives.
