Motorists in the Phoenix metropolitan area are seeing reduced fuel costs as gas prices dropped 15 cents per gallon to reach $3.84 a gallon, according to a Thursday, July 1, release from AAA Arizona. This decline marks the fifth straight week of decreasing prices for the region.
Statewide averages also fell, dropping 14 cents to $3.97 a gallon. The downward trend began in late May and continues as drivers prepare for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Aldo Vazquez, spokesperson for AAA's Mountain West Group, attributed the lower pump prices to a recent decline in crude oil costs. Vazquez noted that crude oil prices have fallen to their lowest levels in several months, settling into the $60 a barrel range.
Despite the recent drops, Vazquez emphasized that current fuel costs remain the highest they have been in four years. The ongoing decrease offers some relief to consumers who have faced elevated prices for an extended period.
Gilbert, where residents can find these local fuel options, is located approximately 11 miles northwest of Queen Creek.
