Defensive lineman Emar'rion Winston has transferred to Arizona State University (ASU) after previously playing at the University of Oregon. His decision to join the Sun Devils was influenced by familiarity with head coach Kenny Dillingham and prior competition against ASU.
The 6-foot-3, 265-pound player made his debut as a starter in the season opener against Morgan State on September 5, where ASU secured a dominant 70-7 victory.
Winston, originally from Portland, Oregon, expressed satisfaction with his choice, stating, "It has been everything I thought it would be and more." He noted that adapting to the heat in Arizona has been his only challenge.
A highly regarded recruit, he was ranked as the No. 4 player in Oregon and the No. 28 edge rusher in the nation by 247Sports while leading Central Catholic High School to an undefeated season and a state championship.
After spending three years at Oregon, where he played in 13 games during the 2024 season and all 14 games in 2023, Winston sought a new experience and entered the transfer portal. He briefly considered schools including Georgia and Baylor before ultimately selecting ASU.
He highlighted the fast-paced nature of ASU's defense as a significant factor in his decision, recalling a previous matchup where he observed the team's aggressive defensive line play.
