Arizona Cardinals starting right guard Isaiah Adams will miss the team’s season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers after being listed as out on the final injury report. Head coach Mike LaFleur announced the decision Friday.

Adams has not played since the middle of the preseason because of a knee injury. Jon Gaines is expected to take his place in the starting lineup at right guard.

LaFleur said Gaines has extensive playing experience and expressed confidence in his ability to handle the assignment. Gaines started Arizona’s final five games last season at left guard, although this will be his first start at right guard in the season opener.

Gaines will face Chargers interior defensive linemen Teair Tart and Dalvin Tomlinson. The source did not provide further details about Adams’ expected return.
