Gardner Minshew is among the quarterbacks the New York Giants are considering after Jaxson Dart suffered a left knee injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season, according to a report published by si.com. The situation has increased speculation that the Arizona Cardinals could trade Minshew during the 2026 regular season.
The Giants are reviewing several possibilities, including free agent Jimmy Garoppolo, Minnesota Vikings reserve J.J. McCarthy, San Francisco 49ers backup Mac Jones and Kansas City Chiefs backup Justin Fields, the report said, citing ESPN and NFL Network sources. New York currently also has Jameis Winston, whose ability to lead the team to winning football was questioned in the source report.
Minshew is one of three quarterbacks on Arizona’s roster, alongside Jacoby Brissett and Carson Beck. The Cardinals gave Brissett a substantial pay increase during the summer, while the team wants to evaluate Beck, a rookie third-round selection, if a change is needed at the position.
Minshew previously worked with Giants offensive coordinator Matt Nagy while the two were in Kansas City. The report said Minshew has played in more than 60 games and received Pro Bowl recognition in 2023. He is scheduled to become a free agent after the season, and the report described him as a potentially inexpensive acquisition who could be available for a low draft choice.
Minshew’s health was also cited as a factor for New York, while Brissett has likewise been mentioned in trade speculation. A move involving Minshew would give Arizona a clearer opportunity to assess Beck before making a major decision about its quarterback position next offseason.
