Arizona State has hired James Hahn, a 44-year-old golfer with two PGA Tour victories, as an assistant coach for its men’s golf program. The school announced the appointment Tuesday after the team had already completed two fall tournaments.
Hahn fills the position vacated by Thomas Sutton, who left during the summer to become Washington’s head coach. Sun Devils coach Matt Thurmond waited before selecting Sutton’s replacement.
Arizona State finished tied for sixth at the Sahalee Players Championship and then won the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational. Hahn’s addition comes after those two events.
Hahn has competed in three PGA Tour tournaments in 2026, following 12 appearances in 2025, including the U.S. Open. He reached No. 52 in the world rankings in 2016 and attended Cal.
“I'm incredibly excited to join the Sun Devil men's golf program and be part of one of the elite powerhouses in collegiate golf,” Hahn said. He added that he plans to use his professional experience to assist the team and its players on and off the course.
