Arizona Cardinals rookie running back Jeremiyah Love is expected to play in the team's Week 1 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers, ESPN's Josh Weinfuss reported. The game is scheduled for Sunday at SoFi Stadium, with kickoff set for 4:25 p.m. Eastern time, or 1:25 p.m. Arizona time.
The appearance would be Love's first game action since he hurt his ankle during the second quarter of Arizona's preseason contest against the Las Vegas Raiders. He took part on a limited basis during practices held Wednesday and Thursday.
Love could still be designated questionable on the Cardinals' final injury report, and the extent of his workload has not yet been made clear. He is listed behind Tyler Allgeier on the team's running back depth chart, although head coach Mike LaFleur said the listing should not be given too much significance.
Love said through the team's official website that he intends to play if the Cardinals call his number. “I just want to play football,” Love said. He also said he plans to work to be available throughout the season.
Further details about Love's expected role and playing time were not provided.
