Arizona State tight end Khamari Anderson will not return this season after suffering an injury to his lower left leg during the Union Jack Classic against Kansas. The injury occurred on the Sun Devils’ second offensive play, and Anderson had to be assisted from the field.

Anderson joined Arizona State from Kentucky in 2025 and became the team’s leading blocker at tight end during his two seasons with the program. His absence adds to an offense already dealing with injuries involving offensive linemen Tana Alo-Tupuola, Wade Helton and Luke Baklenko.

The Sun Devils finished with 133 rushing yards against Kansas, but they needed 14 more carries than in their game at Texas A&M. Their average of 3.1 yards per rush was nearly one yard lower than the figure recorded against the Aggies.

Sophomore AJ Ia, redshirt sophomore James Giggey and redshirt transfer junior Anthony Miller are the remaining tight ends listed for Arizona State. Ia, who is 6 feet 6 inches and weighs 265 pounds, has two catches for 19 yards and a touchdown this season. He was listed as probable before the Kansas game and played.

Giggey may provide the closest blocking replacement for Anderson, but he was penalized twice against Kansas, including a holding call that erased a first-down run on fourth down. Miller, who transferred from Tulane during the offseason, has experience as both a receiver and blocker but has not yet had a major play or significant role with Arizona State.

The Sun Devils used Miller and Giggey together for several snaps after Anderson’s injury.

Arizona State’s upcoming bye week will give the team time to work on its offensive line and roster before hosting Baylor on Saturday, Oct. 3. Head coach Kenny Dillingham said after the Kansas victory, "I think our defense played with that (toughness). I think our offense tried to play with it, but we're just not showing up at the rate we needed to right now."
