East Valley drivers heading west on the Loop 202 Santan Freeway will need a detour this weekend. The Arizona Department of Transportation plans to close westbound Loop 202 between Gilbert Road and Arizona Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, until 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, for its widening project.
Ramps affected
On-ramps to the westbound lanes from McQueen Road east to San Tan Village Parkway will be shut as well, ADOT said in its weekend advisory, as published by AZFamily. ADOT's AZ511 traveler system lists the closed westbound on-ramps at San Tan Village Parkway, Val Vista Drive, Lindsay Road, Cooper Road and McQueen Road for the same window.
For Queen Creek drivers who usually pick up the westbound Santan at San Tan Village Parkway or farther east, that means using surface streets for part of the trip. ADOT suggests westbound Pecos Road or Germann Road as alternates, getting back on the freeway at Alma School Road or Arizona Avenue.
Eastbound Loop 202 is not part of the weekend closure.
Next week
AZ511 also lists more Santan work after the weekend:
- A right-lane closure on eastbound Loop 202 between Gilbert Road and San Tan Village Parkway, from 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, until 5 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13.
- Closures of the westbound on-ramp from Alma School Road and the ramp from westbound Loop 202 to northbound Loop 101, from 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, until 5 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11.
