Drivers heading home to Queen Creek on the Santan Freeway this weekend will need another route through Chandler. The Arizona Department of Transportation plans to close eastbound Loop 202 between Arizona Avenue and Gilbert Road from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, for work on the freeway's widening project.
The eastbound on-ramps at Price, Dobson and Alma School roads will also be closed, along with the HOV ramp that carries southbound Loop 101 traffic onto eastbound Loop 202. ADOT suggests Chandler Boulevard or Germann Road as alternate routes to get back on the freeway east of the closure.
The closure follows last weekend's work on the opposite side, when westbound Loop 202 was shut between Arizona Avenue and Loop 101 for the same project.
Elsewhere in the Valley
ADOT's weekend advisory lists two other full freeway closures from Friday night to early Monday: eastbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria) between 75th and 51st avenues in the northwest Valley, and northbound State Route 51 between Indian School Road and Glendale Avenue in Phoenix, with on-ramps at McDowell and Thomas roads closed. ADOT points drivers on SR 51 to 16th or 24th streets instead.
