Early Dodgers Lead

The Los Angeles Dodgers jumped out to an early advantage at Dodger Stadium on Sunday, building a 3-0 lead before the Arizona Diamondbacks mounted their comeback. The scoring began in the first inning when Ohtani launched a 437-foot home run to center field, giving Los Angeles the initial 1-0 edge.

The Dodgers extended their lead significantly in the third inning. Edman singled to left field, driving in two runs as Ohtani and Pages crossed the plate. Edman advanced to second base on the play, pushing the score to 3-0 in favor of the home team.

Diamondbacks Fight Back

Arizona began chipping away at the deficit in the fifth inning. Arenado doubled to center field, allowing Vargas to score and make it 3-1. The Diamondbacks tied the game later in the same inning when Waldschmidt hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Arenado with Tawa advancing to third base. The score stood at 3-2 after that play.

The turning point came in the sixth inning. Gurriel Jr. grounded into a fielder's choice to third base, but Perdomo scored on a throwing error by Dodgers third baseman Muncy, tying the game at 3-3. Moreno was also safe at third on the error. Vargas then singled to right field, scoring Moreno to give Arizona its first lead of the game at 4-3. Vargas was out stretching at second, while Gurriel Jr. moved to third.

Late Home Run Seals Sweep

The Diamondbacks added an insurance run in the ninth inning. Tawa homered to center field, a 414-foot shot that extended the lead to 5-3. This home run was the second of the game for Arizona, securing the final margin.

Pitching and Records

Arizona’s bullpen played a crucial role in preserving the lead. Ryan Thompson earned the win, improving his record to 4-2, while Kevin Ginkel, Jonathan Loaisiga, Juan Morillo, and Paul Sewald recorded saves, with Sewald earning his 22nd save of the season. Emmet Sheehan pitched 5.1 innings for Los Angeles, striking out seven batters, but took the loss as Edgardo Henriquez (4-1) allowed the tying run.

The Diamondbacks improved their record to 49-47, while the Dodgers fell to 61-36. The game drew an attendance of 47,967 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
