Queen Creek — Gas prices in the East Valley area averaged $3.9460 per gallon for regular unleaded on June 28, according to AAA, down slightly from yesterday. That's down from $4.2070 a week ago and substantially lower than $4.7440 a month ago.

The statewide average in Arizona stands at $4.0510, while the national average is $3.8670. Motorists in the East Valley area are paying less than the state average and more than the national average.

Gas prices in the East Valley area have fallen substantially from their highs. Prices have dropped about 69 cents over the past month, driven by lower crude oil costs and strong refinery output. Compared to a year ago, when the state average was $3.2550, drivers are now paying about 80 cents more per gallon.
