The Town of Queen Creek has scheduled a series of activities for Sept. 12 through 19 to observe Constitution Week. These events are part of the municipality's yearlong observance of America 250, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The week opens with a free community concert at the Queen Creek Performing Arts Center on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. Musical guests from local high schools will perform for attendees. The celebration continues on Sept. 16 during a Town Council meeting, which will feature an Honor Guard presentation of the colors, a proclamation recognizing the week, and the announcement of student contest winners.
K-12 students enrolled in schools within the town are invited to participate in a patriotic art and poetry contest. Participants must submit an original poem or piece of artwork related to the anniversary. Entries, accompanied by a completed form, must be dropped off at the Queen Creek Municipal Services Building at 22358 S. Ellsworth Road by Aug. 31.
Prizes for the contest are being donated by local businesses, including Pecan Lake Entertainment. Selected works will be displayed during the final day of events.
The week concludes with Founders’ Day on Sept. 19 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Frontier Family Park, located at 20039 S. 220th St. The event includes a Constitution Week booth where visitors can view student entries and interact with Town Council members and staff. A service activity through JustServe is also available.
