Heidi's Village in Phoenix has started its Village Dogs program, bringing shelter dogs into the organization as they seek permanent homes. The initial group includes nine dogs transferred through a partnership with Maricopa County Animal Care and Control.
The dogs come from different shelter settings and have varied sizes, ages and personalities. Heidi's Village said the program is intended to give the animals additional visibility as they look for adopters.
Maricopa County Animal Care and Control can have as many as 700 dogs at one time, according to the information provided for the report. Heidi's Village said the nine dogs selected for the program were adoptable but had been among many animals available at the county shelter.
The Village Dogs are eligible for a $100 adoption offer. The package includes a goodie bag, a medical examination, blood work, vaccinations, microchipping and spay or neuter services.
