The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints confirmed on Aug. 31 that its new Queen Creek, Arizona, temple will be constructed southeast of the intersection of Ryan Road and Euell Drive. The specific parcel is located between Meridian Road and Ironwood Road. This site was formerly unincorporated San Tan Valley territory before being incorporated into Queen Creek.
According to the church’s newsroom, the project includes an 82,000-square-foot temple situated on a 15.5-acre lot. The development will also feature a meetinghouse and an ancillary building. President Russell M. Nelson originally announced the temple in 2024, with the Aug. 31 announcement finalizing the location.
Currently, six temples operate in Arizona, while Queen Creek, Yuma, and Flagstaff are among three additional sites that have been announced but not yet built.
The land in question was transferred to Queen Creek through the Ironwood Crossing annexation. The Queen Creek Town Council approved this move on March 7, 2018, and it took effect on April 9, 2018. This action moved approximately 1,485 acres from unincorporated San Tan Valley into the town limits.
Queen Creek has also annexed other areas, including the j-curve at Empire and Ellsworth, Banner Ironwood, and roughly 755 acres along Combs and Gantzel that included Encanterra.
Because the parcel is now within Queen Creek boundaries, local decisions regarding the project will follow Queen Creek’s processes. Residents living in unincorporated San Tan Valley immediately outside this boundary do not have voting rights in Queen Creek elections. The Town of San Tan Valley also does not participate in these local decisions.
