The Town of Queen Creek is moving away from its large-scale Trunk or Treat Halloween tradition in favor of more modest community gatherings. While the specific details of the upcoming programming remain limited, officials have highlighted that the recreation and aquatics center will host a new event called Spooky Splash.
Council Member Dawn Oliphant has reflected on how the town’s holiday celebrations have evolved over the last two decades. She remembers when the Trunk or Treat festivities were much smaller in scale, often held at Desert Mountain Park. During those early years, families would line up along the basketball court to view a single row of decorated vehicle trunks.
Oliphant noted that her own children are now adults, aged 23 and 21, having grown up during the era when these community traditions were just beginning. She shared that the initial events were intimate affairs compared to what they might have become in later years.
Current preparations for the Spooky Splash event involve staff from the Parks and Recreation department. Employees Jessica Castro and Madison Sauthoff were involved in setting up similar Halloween activities at the recreation and aquatics center during previous years, establishing a precedent for the venue hosting seasonal programming.
