Arizona Cardinals safety Kitan Crawford is being placed on injured reserve after suffering a mid-ankle sprain in the team's 26-14 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1.

Crawford was injured during the play on which Simi Fehoko blocked a punt. The roster move was announced by the Cardinals and means Crawford must miss at least the next four games, against the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants and Detroit Lions.

The earliest Crawford could return is Week 6, when the Cardinals are scheduled to play the Los Angeles Rams. A report cited by the source said Crawford is expected to return later this season.

The injury affects the team's safety depth. Dadrion Taylor-Demerson is recovering from a rib injury and did not play in Week 1. If Taylor-Demerson returns, the source identified him and rookie Wydett Williams as the available depth. If he cannot play, the team could sign a player or promote one from its practice squad, although further details were not provided.

Before leaving the game by cart, Crawford played seven defensive snaps and 14 special-teams snaps. He recorded one defensive tackle and two special-teams tackles.
