The Arizona Cardinals initiated their roster adjustments on Saturday by trading running back Corey Kiner to the New England Patriots. In exchange, the Cardinals received a seventh-round draft pick for 2028. This trade is contingent upon Kiner successfully passing a physical examination.
Kiner was not expected to make the final 53-man roster but was considered a strong candidate for the practice squad. The Cardinals' running back lineup is anticipated to include Jeremiyah Love, Tyler Allgeier, and Bam Knight, with James Conner also a possibility, although he has not yet participated fully in training camp.
Evan Hull, who has performed well since joining the team and rushed for 107 yards against the Packers in the preseason finale, may take the practice squad spot that Kiner would have occupied. Depending on Conner's status, Hull could potentially secure a spot on the main roster.
During the preseason, Kiner led the Cardinals with 39 rushing attempts, accumulating 180 yards and averaging 4.6 yards per carry, along with two touchdowns. The Patriots, while established at the top of their depth chart with Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson, have been looking for a suitable third running back throughout the preseason.
