Arizona State University has officially named Cutter Boley as its starting quarterback, just one week before the Sun Devils' season opener against Morgan State on September 5. Boley's selection follows the transfer of Sam Leavitt to LSU and a competitive battle with fellow transfers Mikey Keene and Cam Dyer, as well as true freshman Jake Fette.

Head coach Kenny Dillingham expressed confidence in Boley's performance during training camp, stating, "We think Cutter is the best opportunity for us to go and win football games. We feel like he deserves it and he won it."

Boley, who stands at 6-foot-5 and weighs 213 pounds, brings experience from his previous season at Kentucky, where he started 10 games and achieved a record of 4-6, including wins against SEC teams Auburn and Florida.

In his time at Kentucky, Boley passed for 2,160 yards and recorded 15 touchdowns, although he also threw 12 interceptions and lost two fumbles. He was recognized as a member of the SEC All-Freshman team. Boley emphasized the importance of competition within the quarterback room, stating, "The competition in this room makes everybody better, and that’s going to show on the field."

Dillingham noted the overall strength of the quarterback group, expressing confidence in Keene, Dyer, and Fette as well. He praised Boley's physical attributes and athleticism, indicating that his experience in the SEC would be beneficial as the team faces three preseason ranked opponents this season, including Texas Tech and BYU.

Offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo highlighted Boley's growth and commitment during training camp, noting his dedication to understanding the offensive strategies. Dillingham also commended Boley's leadership qualities, describing him as positive and charismatic. Boley and Keene were recently added to the team's leadership council, reflecting their peers' trust in them.

Last season, the Sun Devils finished with an 8-5 record, including a 6-3 conference record, tying for fourth in the Big 12. With the quarterback position now determined, Boley has a week to prepare for his debut as the starting quarterback for Arizona State against Morgan State.
