Queen Creek's recycle center will close Thursday, Nov. 5, and Friday, Nov. 6, so crews can build a drop-off site for used cooking oil, the Queen Creek Independent reported, citing a town press release.

The center, at 22179 E. Ryan Road, is scheduled to reopen with its regular hours on Saturday, Nov. 7.

In its release, the town said recycling used cooking oil and grease helps keep sewers free of backups and overflows, contributes to cleaner air, prevents truck fires and turns the waste into biodiesel fuel.

Residents do not have to wait for the new site. Used cooking oil and grease can also be dropped off at Fire Station 2, 24787 S. Sossaman Road, according to the town. More information on disposal is posted on the town's website, queencreekaz.gov.

What the center takes

The recycle center accepts the same materials that go in curbside recycling carts. Residents with appliances, electronics, metals, tires, latex paint, paper for shredding or textiles are pointed instead to the town's QC Recycles drive-thru drop-off events, which are free for residents and require registration.
