The crew that keeps the Town of Queen Creek's trucks, patrol cars and equipment running has been named the top fleet in a new awards program run by the company whose software it uses.

RTA, which sells the Fleet360 fleet management system to governments and businesses, announced its first Fleet Success Awards on Wednesday. Queen Creek received the overall Most Successful Fleet award, one of five honors handed out on stage at the company's RTA Connect 2026 user conference in Chicago. All five winners are RTA customers.

What the judges looked at

RTA said entries were judged blind by five former fleet managers across four areas: how efficiently a fleet uses its resources, its workplace culture, how it manages risk, and how satisfied the people it serves are. The company said Queen Creek scored well in all four.

According to the announcement, 79% of the town's maintenance work is scheduled in advance rather than done as unplanned repairs, compared with a 70% industry benchmark the company cited. Technicians log 81% of their hours as direct work on vehicles, and the town completes 97.6% of preventive maintenance on time, above its own 95% target.

The company also credited the town's record keeping, including inspection reports tied to every vehicle, tracking of employee certifications and licenses, standard repair coding and a test database used to check system changes before they go live.

It said the fleet team uses Geotab vehicle data to cut manual work, and that the number of licensed assets the town manages in the system has grown from 779 to 804.

RTA described the effort as spanning the town's Public Works leadership, fleet supervisors, mechanics, parts staff and information technology employees.

Other winners

The other awards went to DATTCO Inc., a New England transportation company, for resource efficiency; the City of Frisco, Texas, for stakeholder satisfaction; South Bend Public Transportation Company in Indiana for risk management; and Lehi City, Utah, for workplace culture.

The town is preparing to build a new fleet building. Construction is set to start soon, and the Recycle Center's Ryan Road entrance is being moved just west of its current spot to keep residents clear of construction traffic, according to the town. The center is closed through Friday, Oct. 16, and is scheduled to reopen with normal hours Saturday, Oct. 17.
