Drivers heading west from the Southeast Valley on the Loop 202 Santan Freeway will need another route until early Monday.

The Arizona Department of Transportation closed westbound Loop 202 between Arizona Avenue and the Loop 101 Price Freeway in Chandler at 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, for a widening project and plans to reopen it at 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, the agency said in its weekend travel advisory.

Westbound on-ramps at McQueen, Cooper and Gilbert roads are also shut, as are the ramps from westbound Loop 202 onto Loop 101. Pecos and Germann roads are ADOT's suggested detours around the closed stretch.

Other East Valley restrictions

Southbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) is down to one or two lanes from McKellips Road to the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway until 5 a.m. Monday for pavement maintenance. Ramps from eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain) to both directions of Loop 101 were scheduled to stay closed until 10 a.m. Saturday.

Elsewhere in the Valley, ADOT has closed westbound Loop 101 between 51st and 75th avenues, northbound State Route 51 between Interstate 10 and Indian School Road, and westbound Loop 303 from I-17 to 43rd Avenue. State Route 347 north of Maricopa is down to one lane in each direction from Casa Blanca Road to Mammoth Way.

ADOT says most of the work is paid for in part by Proposition 400, the transportation sales tax Maricopa County voters approved in 2004. Current conditions are posted at az511.gov, on the az511 app and by calling 511.

Santan widening meeting Tuesday

ADOT is also taking comments on a separate plan to widen Loop 202 by a general purpose lane each way from Interstate 10 to Loop 101. A virtual public meeting is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, with registration through the project page at azdot.gov/L202-I10-L101.

Comments are accepted through Oct. 21. The project is in design, and ADOT expects construction to begin as early as late 2027.
