Queen Creek Unified board president Samantha Davis held a clear lead for one of the district's two open governing board seats Wednesday morning, but the second seat was a three-way contest with fewer than 450 votes from second place to fourth.

Maricopa County's unofficial results file updated at 4:11 a.m. Wednesday showed:

  • Samantha Davis: 12,010 (28.47%)
  • Kelli Anderson: 10,240 (24.27%)
  • Michael Romero: 9,996 (23.69%)
  • Sarah Purcell: 9,819 (23.27%)
  • Write-ins: 123 (0.29%)

Anderson was 244 votes ahead of Romero, who was 177 votes ahead of Purcell. The order has already shifted once: in the first returns Tuesday night, the Queen Creek Tribune reported, Purcell was in second place with 24.18%, and Anderson trailed in fourth.

Davis has served on the board since 2018 and was seeking a third term. Anderson was appointed in 2025 and was running for her first full term. Romero, a former high school teacher who now works in business, and Purcell, who taught in the district for 15 years, were the challengers.

Maricopa County says it posts updated unofficial results daily until every ballot is tabulated, and results are not official until the canvass. With the second-seat margins in the low hundreds, the order could change again.

Higley Unified

In Higley Unified, which serves parts of Queen Creek and Gilbert, board president Amanda Wade led the race for two four-year seats with 12,576 votes (34.24%). Newcomer Michelle Morris had 11,805 (32.14%), and incumbent Anna Van Hoek had 11,007 (29.96%).

A separate write-in contest for the last two years of former member Scott Glover's term drew 3,011 write-in votes, but the county had not yet assigned them to individual candidates. No names appeared on that ballot because a judge's ruling came after the filing deadline, the Tribune reported.

Residents in Chandler Unified's part of town had no board race this year after only two candidates filed for two seats.
