Lawlar Leads Diamondbacks to Dominant Victory

Jordan Lawlar drove in three runs, including a two-run home run, as the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Cincinnati Reds 9-0 at Chase Field on Saturday, August 22, 2026. The home team capitalized on a strong offensive performance to secure a decisive win, improving their record to 68-61. The Reds, who fell to 61-68, were held scoreless by the Diamondbacks' pitching staff.

Attendance at the Phoenix venue was 32,087.

Scoring Sequence and Offensive Play

The Diamondbacks took an early lead in the first inning when Moreno singled to center, allowing Carroll to score. The offensive pressure increased in the second inning when Lawlar homered to left field for a distance of 377 feet, driving in Tawa. Shortly after, Vargas hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Fernandez.

In the third inning, Waldschmidt doubled to left field, bringing in Lawlar and advancing Fernandez to third base. The Diamondbacks continued to add runs in the fourth inning when Perdomo singled to center field, scoring Carroll. The scoring did not stop in the later innings, with the home team adding two runs in the seventh inning when Lawlar singled to center field, scoring Perdomo.

The final two runs of the game came in the eighth inning, with Arenado singling to left field to score Perdomo, followed by Tawa doubling to center field to score Arenado.

Pitching Performance

Eduardo Rodriguez earned the win for the Diamondbacks, pitching 5.2 innings while allowing four hits and two walks while striking out four batters. He did not allow any earned runs. Dennis Santana followed, pitching 1.1 innings with no hits allowed and two strikeouts.

Justin Martinez and Taylor Clarke closed out the game, each pitching one inning without allowing hits or earned runs. For the Reds, Nick Lodolo took the loss, pitching 3.1 innings while allowing 10 hits and six earned runs. Julian Garcia pitched 2.2 innings without allowing hits or earned runs.

Pierce Johnson and Sam Moll also appeared in relief for the visiting team.
