The Banner Sun Health Research Institute, located in Queen Creek, has been awarded a $6 million grant to support research aimed at identifying biomarkers for Parkinson’s disease. The funding is designated for a three-year period and is intended to accelerate the early detection of the condition.
The grant was provided by Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s, which operates in partnership with The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. This financial support allows the Banner institute to join the Collaborative Research Network, an international group dedicated to addressing high-priority questions regarding the disease.
The award is part of a broader expansion by Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s, which has increased its funding for the Collaborative Research Network to $261 million. This expansion brings the total number of participating teams to 67, representing 187 institutions across 24 countries.
Queen Creek is situated approximately 35 miles southeast of Phoenix. The specific details regarding how the funds will be allocated within the institute or the timeline for initial results were not provided in the announcement.
The Collaborative Research Network functions as a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional effort. By joining this network, the Banner Sun Health Research Institute becomes part of a global coalition working to advance understanding of Parkinson’s disease through shared scientific inquiry.
