A Queen Creek, Arizona, couple hired Sacred Dove Release to announce their baby's gender by releasing birds dyed bright blue. The event, reported by NBC 12 News, marked a first for business owner Monica Flores, who usually supplies doves for weddings and funerals. Flores described the concept as beautiful and insisted she used non-toxic food coloring, stating she would never endanger the animals.

After the release, residents near the Salt River noticed the birds and contacted Crystal White of Crystal's Critter Haven. White collected the doves but noted they could not be fully cleaned. She warned that dyeing birds is dangerous because their sensitive respiratory systems can be harmed by inhaling or ingesting the chemicals, and the bright colors make them visible to predators. Flores later said she would not dye birds again after receiving negative feedback online. White confirmed the birds are healthy and have returned home.
