QUEEN CREEK, Arizona — Pinal County election officials are mailing replacement ballots to 1,468 voters in Queen Creek and San Tan Valley after a vendor error produced misprinted ballots for the upcoming primary election.

The error affected committeeman races in precincts 28 and 136, officials said. A vendor for the Arizona Secretary of State's voter registration database pulled incorrect information, resulting in ballots that could not be counted. The original ballots have been canceled in the election system and cannot be tabulated.
> "A spokesperson confirmed the error affected committeeman races in precincts 28 and 136 in Queen Creek and San Tan Valley," county officials said in a statement Saturday.

The Pinal County Recorder's Office began notifying affected Republican voters immediately: as of mid-day Saturday, officials had sent 765 emails, 108 text messages, and left 109 voicemails. Notices have also been posted on the county recorder's website, and voters with phone numbers on record will receive text alerts through the county's emergency notification system.

Correct replacement ballots are being mailed with an explanation of the error. Voters who received the original misprinted ballot should discard it and use only the replacement ballot. Voters with questions can contact the Pinal County Citizen Contact Center at 311 or 520-509-3555.

The error does not affect any other races on the ballot, and election officials emphasized that no valid votes have been lost. The county said it is working with the vendor to prevent similar errors in future elections.

Queen Creek is in the Phoenix metropolitan area, about 40 miles southeast of downtown Phoenix, along the Maricopa-Pinal county line.
