Arizona State University is approaching a decision regarding its starting quarterback for the 2026 season, with Coach Kenny Dillingham noting that Cutter Boley and Mikey Keene have distinguished themselves from other candidates following a recent scrimmage at Camp Tontozona in Payson.
Dillingham commented on August 17 that both players performed well during the scrimmage, stating, "I think Cutter had a really good scrimmage. I think, minus a couple plays, Mikey had a really good scrimmage." He acknowledged that while the competition is ongoing, Boley and Keene have shown significant improvement.
Other candidates, including Jake Fette and Cam Dyer, have also participated, but Dillingham emphasized the progress made by Boley and Keene.
The coach confirmed that a final decision on the starting quarterback will not be made until after the conclusion of fall camp. He referenced the timing of a previous announcement when Sam Leavitt was named the starter in 2024, which occurred on August 19. Dillingham stated, "We're not done with camp yet, so I think we should get through camp first."
Both quarterbacks have combined for only three interceptions throughout the camp, with one interception attributed to a wide receiver's cramping incident. Dillingham remarked that this statistic reflects positively on their performance, as it indicates a low turnover rate.
