Jace Harrell, a Chandler High School shortstop, has committed to Arizona State as part of the 2027 recruiting class. Harrell had previously pledged to UC Santa Barbara before changing his commitment and selecting the Sun Devils, according to si.com.

The switch-hitting prospect is listed by Perfect Game at 6 feet 2 inches and 160 pounds. Although shortstop is his primary position, he has also played second base and in the outfield. USA Baseball still identified him as a UCSB commit during its 2026 DREAM Series in early January, where Harrell posted a 10-foot-2 broad jump that tied for fourth at the event.

Harrell’s production increased during his junior season at Chandler. After hitting .305 as a sophomore, he batted .420 over 20 games in 2026, based on statistics submitted to MaxPreps. He collected 21 hits in 50 at-bats, including eight doubles, one triple and four home runs. He also recorded 16 RBIs and scored 19 runs.

His 2026 on-base percentage was .522, while his slugging percentage was .860, producing a 1.382 OPS. He drew 10 walks and struck out nine times in 67 plate appearances.

Across his first two varsity seasons, Harrell has a .348 batting average, a .451 on-base percentage and a .652 slugging percentage, with 46 hits, 16 doubles, three triples, six home runs and 34 RBIs in 48 games.

Harrell has also drawn notice at showcase events. At the 2026 Four Corners ProCase, Prep Baseball recorded his maximum exit velocity at 102.9 mph, a 395-foot drive and a 6.59-second 60-yard dash. The outlet also cited his athleticism, defensive hands and footwork, as well as his ability to produce from both sides of the plate.

Perfect Game lists his top 60-yard dash time at 6.68 seconds and his infield velocity at 84 mph. The source did not provide further details about Harrell’s planned enrollment or role at Arizona State.

Arizona State’s other listed 2027 commitments include right-handed pitcher Jace Adams of Arizona, California prospects Jose Partida, Joshua Priest and Danny De La Torre, and Alaska shortstop Rilen Niclai.
