Arizona’s encouraging start did not survive the first half Sunday. The Cardinals scored on their opening possession but fell 45–21 to Detroit at State Farm Stadium, dropping to 1–4.
The early defense gave Queen Creek fans reason for optimism, with three sacks of Jared Goff across Detroit’s first three possessions. After that, the Lions scored on seven consecutive possessions, six of them touchdowns.
Arizona’s offense stalled just as sharply. Following its opening touchdown, it gained only 26 yards over its remaining six first-half possessions, according to the club’s official recap.
The decisive lead change came on fourth-and-1 in a 7–7 game, when Goff found an uncovered Sam LaPorta for a 38-yard touchdown. Detroit never surrendered the lead.
