The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning covering the Queen Creek area, part of Maricopa and Pinal counties, from July 23 through July 27, with afternoon highs forecast up to about 117 degrees and little relief overnight.
Extreme heat is the deadliest weather hazard in Arizona.
Public health officials urge residents to take it seriously: - Stay indoors in air conditioning during the hottest hours, and check on older neighbors and anyone without reliable cooling. - Drink water regularly and avoid strenuous outdoor activity in the afternoon. - Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, where temperatures rise quickly to deadly levels. - Learn the warning signs of heat illness, including dizziness, nausea, headache and confusion, and seek help if they appear.
