Mesa police have identified the individual responsible for a shooting incident that resulted in one death and two injuries in a residential neighborhood. The suspect was identified as 47-year-old Kevin Richardson. The identity of the deceased victim has not been made public.
Officers responded to the scene around 8 p.m. on Sunday following multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting. The incident occurred in a residential area near the intersection of Lindsay and Brown roads, close to Mountain View High School. Mesa is about 16 miles northwest of Queen Creek.
According to police, Richardson was wearing a tactical-style helmet and vest when he fired multiple shots. Law enforcement stated that several rounds were directed at a Mesa Police Department air unit. An adult and a minor residing in an adjacent home were struck by gunfire. Both survivors sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators indicated that preliminary information suggests Richardson died by suicide. A rifle was discovered near his body. Authorities have not yet determined the motive behind the shooting or the nature of Richardson's relationship with the deceased victim.
