Santana Alo-Tupuola is poised to take on the starting center role for Arizona State University as the football team prepares for its season opener against Morgan State on September 5 at Mountain America Stadium. Alo-Tupuola, a junior who transferred from Georgia Tech, expressed a strong connection to ASU, stating, "This is my home. This is my place. I will be here till I graduate."
After spending two years in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Alo-Tupuola entered the transfer portal, where he considered offers from California and Baylor before choosing ASU. He highlighted the welcoming environment and commitment of the coaching staff as key factors in his decision. "You have great coaches. You have coaches who don't want to leave... It's a blessing," he remarked.
Alo-Tupuola has previous experience, having played in 13 games as a freshman and starting four games in 2025 for a team that reached the ACC championship game. His physicality and ability to perform under pressure caught the attention of ASU offensive line coach Saga Tuitele, who noted Alo-Tupuola's passion for physical football and quickness as standout traits.
The Sun Devils are in a rebuilding phase for their offensive line after losing several key players from last season. Alo-Tupuola's presence is expected to stabilize the center position, which had been a concern when injuries impacted the team last year. Tuitele mentioned the versatility of other players like junior Wade Helton and senior Makua Pule, who can also fill in at center if necessary.
